A user on Windows 2000 has 2 My Documents folders, both containing a subdirectory of My Pictures.
One directory is C:\My Documents\ (Always enmpty) and the other directory is C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My documents.
The user had a large amount of files in the second "My Documents" folder. He then dragged and dropped the folder over the "My Pictures" folder.
At this stage his files dissappeared.
Recycle bin is empty.
Ran undelete software from a CD and nothing has been deleted from any of the folders mentioned.
Ran a search of the entire C: drive (Only drive) and looked for all files missing, i.e. *.ppt and *.doc and *.xls
Nothing found.
Then we opened explorer and set the folder options to display all files and folders on the system.
Ran the search again and nothing was found.
Finally, user reports that if he creates new files now and puts them into his "My Pictures" folder they also dissappear.
The directories in question are all sub-directories of "Documents and settings".
Any help would be appreciated.
