User had a large amount of files in "C:\My Documents".
A colleague copied on a Powerpoint file from a zip drive
using the destination path "C:\My Documents" and inadvertently overwrote the entire contents of the directory.
Is there any way to get these files back.
It is a laptop running Windows 2000 pro.

You could try a data recovery tool - see what it can see. Here's a free one to start with -
PS. Is it really C:\My Documents? - user's My documents folder in 2k is usually \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents - I'm just wondering if the 'real' My Documents is actually still there where it should be). Also - interesting command which wipes out folder's contents while copying one file to it!

The user actually copied a "My Documents" folder over the existing "My Documents" folder.
The new folder cotained 1 file and over-wrote everything there.
Tried a good undeleteprogram to no avail.
Any other suggestions?

If a good undelete app can't find anything then you'll probably have to accept the original My documents is toast.
No backups anywhere?
