It is a dell Pentium . The light in front just blinks on and of and it won't turn on when I hit the button

Did you try to hold it in for about 10 seconds? I've seen this condition caused by going on standby or when a user taps the power button.

Yeah, I get that light when I 'send it to sleep', it seems that your Dell's DPMS mode is kicking in....

haven't got a clue why?

IF it's a yellow blinking light, that is an indication that AT LEAST one of your power supplies has failed. Considering that you can't power-up - either you don't have redundant power supplies and the one you do have is bad or you have redudant power supplies and ALL are bad. If this is the case, and your server is still under warranty, get Dell on the phone and they will have a replacement(s) to you within 24hrs.
