I have a database that is not allowing more than one person to access the databas at once. Whenever you try to access the database, and someone is already working with it you get the following error:

could not use name.mdb file already in use

I have set the file to open as a shared file.

Someone please help me, this is really slowing down production.

Thanks

David

I have experienced this problem before. If the user doesn't open Access prior to opening the database, they can lock it to individual use. This could happen by opening the database directly through Windows Explorer, or by a shortcut that doesn't open Access first. To correct this, your shortcut should include the Access executable prior to opening the file. I am going to boot up my other computer and check where the executable is for Access on it and will post the location, but it can vary depending on the Operating system. It should be the MSACCESS.EXE with the path in front of it. Will let you know in a minute...

HI

This can also be caused if the Database is on a network share and all users do not have read/write/delete/create access rights in the folder.

Hope this helps

Debbie,

I have tried open Microsoft Access and then opening the database, I am not getting the error that I cannot use the file now..so it looks like that is fixed. However, I am now get an error that says "Cannot Lock File" any suggestions?

Thanks David

"Cannot Lock File" occurs when the user doesn't have write permissions in the folder the mdb resides. The user has to have write permission in order to create the ldb file used by Access for locking. The ldb file has to be created for shared use of the mdb.
