my comp pauses every 3 seconds

I have a p3-600, 256 mb ram, win98se.<br><br>Every 3 seconds my comp pauses. For example- if I go into a word processor and hold down a key, the character is printed repeatedly until a &quot;pause&quot; occurs at the 3 second mark, then it begins printing the character again. The characters are not &quot;lost&quot; during the pause. They are printed on the screen immediately after the pause. ANY ideas?

Already tried those things.The only things running in the background are systray and explorer.
