my cannot i open these files 1

Please can any one advise me, im having a problem in illustrator cs when i save certain files as .ai it tells me later there is not enought memory to opent the file my computer has 2gigs memory and is 64bit processor it doesnot matter the size of the illustration im working on
Please HELP!!!! im loosing whats left of my mind!

The memory it is talking about is your RAM, you probably have other applications running when you open the document, try closing some other applications before running it, Illustrator is a RAM hog.

it does not matter if the file is 2x4 with only text or a A4 with loads of link pictures it still refuses to open even after ive closed the system down completly and restarted only opening illustrator, i have some very large files that i have no problem opening

Hmm... Sounds like a hardware problem to me, check with your IT department. Sorry I can't be of any more help. If your using Windows XP try checking your CPU usage and if its like majorly jammed try shutting down some background processes that would eat up alot of RAM, This was a problem for me for a while where Illustrator would take an ungodly ammount of time to do anything and every now and then wouldn't save because of a memory problem, so I messed around with the config and shut some uneaded tasks down and it's been working good every since.
