I just wanna throw this stupid POS on the street. I better hurry on this before it fails on me again. okay, this is what happens. I plug in my modem after it fails and the lights on the modem do what they are supposed to do. so i plug it into my router and then im online. but after about 3 hours the modem fails and i have to unplug it for about 3 more hours. Its really frustrating. I dont know if its my router or that Rogers just sucks. If anybody knows of this kind of behaviour with modems please help me....it really killed me during exam week.

The easiest way to determine the point of failure is to take the router out of the equation. Connect your computer directly to your cable modem, and when it powers up, it should get a DHCP lease from the modem. The default gateway IP is your modem's IP. If you start having connection issues, and you can't ping your default gateway, then it's the modem, probably overheating, although it could be a problem with the signal coming into the modem. Either way, call your ISP, go through the troubleshooting steps with them on the phone and let them send someone out.

Do you still have all the lights on the modem when it fails?

If so, try connecting your pc to a different port on the router.

If not, it may be a flakey connection from the poll.

Try it with out the router as suggested. If you still have problems call your ISP and don't even bother mentioning the router with the tech or it will just cause confusion with them(they will blame it on the router) weather it is connected or not.
