Hi!

I appologise if I posted this topic under wrong section...

Here's the problem:

After making a fresh install of a system (WIn XP + SP2) I decided to increase the security level and downloaded some programs that I thought could help me with that. I went for Kaspersky's antivirus, Ad-Aware's SE anti spyware, Trojan guarder and Zone Lab's firewall. I installed all of the mentioned programs. Some of them have the option of "watching" the system real time but I didn't know that would be a problem although I'm no advance user (I left everything go on default). Well, after I did all that, my Mozilla Firefox browser didn't respond anymore. After clicking on it nothing happened. I tried system restore and it didn't work so I uninstalled all of the programs mentioned above (including the Firefox), restarted, installed them again, installed the Firefox again...well, it's the same story. There has to be something stored on my computer that prevents the Firefox to access the internet. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Also, when I start the computer, a message saying ERROR IN COMMAND LINE appears at Windows start up. Looks like something is left in my system registry from the previous installs.

I hope you can help me. Thank you for the effort!

Here is the list of the programs I think could be the problem:

Ad-Aware SE Proffesional
Kaspersky Antivirus Personal ver. 5.0.156
Spy Remover ver. 2.10
Trojan Guarder Gold 5.13
Zone Alarm Pro 4.5.538

Did Firefox work AFTER you uninstalled the lot?
If so, simply remove each component - one at a time - teesting Firefox's connectivity after each removal, until you pinpoint the culprit.
By the way...have you tried another browser to see if this is indeed Firefox specific?

Tired of waiting for an answer? Try asking better questions. See: faq222-2244

Have you checked ZoneAlarm's Program - blocking function?

Dave

Simple solution:

De-Install ZoneAlarm 4.5 it's known to cause probs with SP2!!! Install instead version 5.1.033 or better...

Ben

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...

Start, Run, netsh winsock reset

Then reboot the computer.
