MY BRIEFCASE ERROR

Hello all,
Here is my problem my shop had just upgraded to new computers and I am in the process of migrating user data to new PC's. In this one case I was moving data from NT 4.0 to Win2k machine. The user put all of his personal files for transfer in his briefcase. I made the mistake of moving the Briefcase to the new computer vice copy. Now if user trys to open the briefcase gets "there is not enough memory to open the briefcase database" error I tried to move file back to original PC but still same problem. Is there any way to salvage this Briefcase? Any comments suggestions anything. I just hate to lose this guys stuff.

were you able to recover the briefcase database? I am having the same problem.

Hi, yes I did and my mind is slipping me for all the trouble it was I don't remember exactly what I did. If I remeber correctly when I copied the file to the new location the file attribute was changed to read only. I think all I did was remove the read only attrib and it worked. I hope it helps.

that was the first thing I tried. even after I change the attributes and click the apply button. when I close it and reopen it, it has changed back to read only.

I don't know what to say. I'm pretty sure though that's all I had to do. It's kind of unusual that you can't change the attribute. I know this is crazy but you're not accessing the file on a cdrom are you? The only time I'm aware of that you wouldn't be able to change file attribs is on a cdrom or I believe depending on if your NTFS or not on NT/Win2k/XP the security settings for the file may prevent changing the attrib's..
