Comp USA and Circuit city tell me that I will have to replace the whole mobo because in Sony vaio models (PCG-FX140), they didn't think to put the connection on a pivot. Duhhhh! So therefore, it is sodered(sp?)directly to the mobo. These repair places won't soder it back on because they claim it will just become loose again and they don't want to be responsible for that.

Does anyone know any work arounds? I just upgraded my laptop and I really don't want to buy a new one just because of a little stupid connector.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

You could do the soldering yourself or get a charger and a second battery and swap them out as needed.

Or solder, then fill the space around it with potting compound.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

hot glue works well also. After soldering the piece back on.

I shall use google before asking stupid questions!

Try your fiendly local television repair shop.

You will have to indemnify them if they kill the motherboard, but it is usually a trivial solder item to do.

The Computer Stores are correct: the normal repair is a motherboard replacement.
