MX record issues

Hey all,

My server is having trouble sending mail to a couple of random domains. Everything is set properly on my end but when I query the MX record of the destination domains that I can't send to, they all have an IP address for their MX record instead of a FQDN. Is that the reason my Exchange won't send to them? And if so, is there a workaround besides notifying the owners of those domains that their MX is not set up right?
