I hope that there is something that *I* can do to resolve this, but I really don't know...I have put in two support tickets with our hosting company about it, but so far, they are just...well...idiots!

Ok...we started out at a relatively smaller web hosting company. They simply could not handle us and because of some of the features we wanted to offer, we decided to go with a dedicated server with a new company (original company didn't offer dedicated servers and their largest package was a joke compared to what we needed lol).

So...we moved.

Once we finally got our server up and running, everything was coming along pretty well...until...

One of my co-owners was playing in the site controls and under forward/redirect E-mail settings, she noticed that 'default' was set to a non-existing E-mail address (tmc@themomsconnection.com). She changed it to her personal E-mail address (not an @themomsconnection.com acct).

WELL - this really shouldn't have made one bit of difference because our MX records are pointing to everyone.net (the company that we use to handle our E-mail).

Only, it made a HUGE difference. She suddenly starting getting E-mails that we should never get...

Example:

Someone signed up for a free website at our site using their @themomsconnection.com acct. The E-mail with their registration information went to my co-admin!

She started getting moderator notification messages for some of the boards...all were ones that should have gone to mods that were using @themomsconnection.com accts in their profiles.

So...our issue is this:

If someone uses a NON @themomsconnection.com acct, they have no problems at all...they get their private message notifications, change of email address email, moderator notifications, reply to message notifications, and website sign up info.

HOWEVER, if someone uses their @themomsconnection.com acct, they do not receive any of the emails above...instead, those emails go nowhere (we took out the default addy completely to prevent us from receiving emails with private information).

BUT, if I just open up outlook or go to yahoo and send an email to one of these ppl, they get the email with no problems at all.

So - a basic rundown of our issue is that emails that go through any of the cgi programs on our site are checking the SITE settings rather than being directed to our MX records and seeing that the email address does in fact exist...I *guess*...I really don't know!!!

If this needs to be posted elsewhere, please let me know.

I'm curious ... what was the problem that prompted you to remove the default forward/redirect e-mail addy?

I ask this because (and I'm sure this occured to you) that "non-existent" e-mail addy may well have been an address that everyone.net is using to pick up messages from your web-based mail server. In other words, who has actual domain authority over mail sent to "themomsconnection.com", everyone.net or your web-based mail server? If everyone.net, then they could have set up an acount called tmc@themomsconnection.com as a "merged account", where all mail to any address using the suffix @themomsconnection.com goes.

If that's the case, you might want to put that default back. John Hoarty

We were having the same issue outlined in my post, only we didn't know the cause of it. It wasn't until my co-admin had changed it (because that E-mail doesn't exist and it really shouldn't matter what is in there because we should have no control over any aspect of our E-mail settings through our server, only through Everyone.net) that we realized that it was something in our server settings that was causing the problem.

They are still working on it, too. *sigh*
