I have a problem at a customer site where the mwi does not work on his analog sets. The customer has a mm4.0 mss backend with qsig integration. He is on CM5. When I status the station I can see that PBX has been updated and knows that there is a voice mail. The customer has astra 8004 and avaya 6220 sets.

The brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you get up in the morning, and does not stop until you get to the office.

If you stat the station does it show MWI is set?

yes, when I status the station MWI is being set. The PBX is getting updated just no lights on the phones.

Are you sure that the PBX has the right power supply to send the 80V to light the lamp on the phone? Have you tried using stutter dial tone to see if that works?

What type of power supply do I need?

Not sure but i know some PBX's need one to turn the lamp on.

You may not even need one but i would check the line voltage and make sure you see the 80V.

try also using the FAC to set LWC on/off to verify if the lamp actually works - remember just ringing the phone and seeing it flash is different from MWI.

you may need to see what power levels the analogs require from the power supply.

As Ken mentioned, some PABX, like NEC, need a Battery Booster Unit to get the 80V, as most power supplies are 48V max.
