Can anyone tell me please, if you can use the SORT utility to split a file into 2 (or more) other files...

ie.

/ SORT ( )
/ INCLUDE ( ) --> FILE1
/ OMIT ( ) --> FILE2

Or do I need to run the SORT utility twice.

Thanks,

DK.

Hi DK,

Here's a link to a DFSORT example of splitting a file. Pay no mind to the cntl cards after the OUTFIL INCLUDEs. They're showing off :).

Check 1st to verify that you're using DFSORT. You might be using SYNCSORT. There may be some minor differences. They both might use PGM=SORT. Ask around at your shop.

HTH, Jack.

Errrm - Slade - where is the link ??? I'm blind if it's right in front of me :)

My SYNCSORT VSE 3.3 manual indicates that it supports multiple OUTFIL statements much as shown in the IBM DFSORT example. Certainly it must support that in the z/OS/MVS environment too?

Hi Glenn,

My point was that the 2 solutions may not match EXACTLY, so verification would be prudent.

Regards, Jack.
