I am using an existing working extension at Site B where we dial in through Site A VM. I have connected this extension to the meter which dials in through modem but the call keeps on dropping before downloading data.

Does anyone know if the Merlin system would actually allow me to accomplish data downloads through the meter modem? I've been able to access the Merlin through modem on laptop remotely so figured I could do the same using an extension as a channel for the meter.

Well, it's iffy at best. I use an extension off of my Merlin Magix system to dial out to other Legend/Magix systems, but the transmission parameters have to be just right.

The "just right" stuff is limited by things like:

Is part of this call over a VOIP of any kind?

Also, what speed are you attempting? I can go a bit faster than 9600 when I download from Voice Mail systems, but of course, the ADMIN of the Phone Systems is stuck at 1200.

It works best if you have ANALOG all the way, but that's getting harder and harder to find. I have long suspected that the "ANALOG" line I lease from The X-BELL Company has been converted to VOIP (or some kind of digital), but I am still able to connect to most of the systems I attempt to dial into.

Transmitting DATA is subject to the same restrictions, of course.

First let me correct myself, we dial into Site B(NY) through Site A(CT) Auto Attendant and not VM.

The 2 Merlins are networked together through Fiber so this is probably causing a road block due to being digital. I'm not sure if the customer with meter is using VOIP, but I'm guessing from your suggestion that we are a limiting factor due to having digital connection where we have a Fiber to Ethernet Converter at each end with the Merlins.

We were thinking that the system did not recognize the dial in as a call so it dropped it. The meter/modem was able to establish a connection but it would disconnect during download of data.

I just figured since we were able to download Merlin admin data remotely through AA that the meter data can find it's way over also.
