Two recruiters are recruiting me because I have 3+ years of HP-UX System Admin experience. I am more of a Windows guru and have my MCSE, but I certainly would like the benefits of a Unix "only" job (I'd get a 20% pay increase). I must take a unix profiency test of some kind because the companies want to see test scores.

Should I worry about this test? What kinds of things are considered general or normal knowledge for a Mid-level or intermediate Unix administrator?

I am good at what I do, but sometimes I come on to these forums and see the questions some are asking and realize I may be a little behind the game in Unix to be playing with the big boys. However, I have confidence in myself and my ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot soundly. I enjoy Unix very much, so...

What are your thoughts? Good Luck...Aint this fun!

UNIX proficiency means many things to many people. There is a (or was) a general unix test on brainbench.com that might be helpful. Also, I would imagine if you looked at cramsession.com and downloaded the pdf study guides for Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Linux - those might help. Post any specific questions and I'll see if I can help you out. Good luck.

Thanks...I'm going out to Brainbench.com and Cramsession.com now. I'll keep you informed.

G Aint this fun?!? ;-)
