Must one use the AA for automatic fax routing?

I have a home installation of a Partner ACS v3.0 with 2 308EC serving a total of 22 extensions.

I have extension ownership of each of 3 lines with line 01 and 02 owned by extension 10 and mailbox 01 and line 03 assigned to extension 24 and mailbox 02. Automatic Fax CNG detection (for extension 26 Group 8) does not work though all settings have been confirmed.

I have read in the forum that one must use the AA for fax routing? Is this correct or is there another option. If you have to use AA can it route directly to the mailbox or does it have to ring extension 24 first?

Automatic CNG fax detection and routing requires automated attendant or ASA/DXD AND a 308EC R3 expansion module. If you have R1s, it aint gonna work.

Can you use 206 modules, presuming the CO you are receiving faxes on isn't hosted on that board?? (So it would be connected directly into the ACS processor itself)

Thanks!

ack.. Ignore that last question. I just found the answer myself. I just had to look at the right revision documentation. I really wish someone would take the time to put together a grid that tells you what features/changes were made in each revision.

It'd make it so much nicer for those of us who donate systems to non-profits. It'd help me only buy what I need to get the desired feature, without buying R6's for everyone.

Yes, the fax extension is set and there are R3s in slot 01 and 02.

So it appears I am stuck using the AA to get the fax detection. Now, can AA behave like the VM and send all call directly to a VM box without the selector set and the caller press "1" to reach the extension and then wait for the extension to ring its count?

The zero request/time out function of the AA will direct the caller who does nothing to the extension identified in the zero selector code for that AA. The ACS will require 5-8 seconds of AA greeting to detect the CNG tone, even if the greeting was basically silence. Then it will pass through to the extension defined. If that extension was in DND, it would go directly to that mailbox.

It would be perilous to define selector code 1 as anything except direct extension dialing, as well as 2 and usually 3. With the AA kicked in, callers would never be able to dial and be transferred to any extension from 10 to 39.

Hi la751,
I agree totally with 392. Do you need to detect faxes on all lines or just one? If just one, set line ownership on the others and the attendant on the line in question. That should do it. I have an R3 rev R6 at home as well. I just use the attendant for everything. The fax bit works great.
