I am a recording musician and would like to create my own programs for recording and mixing music, also to twick some programs I am using now. I know nothing about programing, but I am going to learn. I need direction about which programing courses, programs and books I need for starting to obtain my goals. Thanks in advance.

It seems that we should be able to do this with Vis Basic. I've just learned this language, and I'm wanting to build a simple player for MP3, and Mpegs. I've heard that the Media Player API is the place to start. We also have access to Real Player objects.
Recording will be more complicated, so I'm thinking that it's best to learn to just Play first. So, I'm waiting to hear some good pointers on this subject, too.

Of course the method you mention, is basically relying on C++ code and such, that already exist in the API, if you are doing this from scratch (and I belive I Already answered this question already)

C++ will be best for doing this kind of thing from scratch, player or otherwise (as VB doesnt have many of the critical things to make this work)

VB can be used to make a great frontend (like you do with the API)

Wouldn't Java be a more device-independant route? I agree that VB is not an advantage in media processing.
I guess it's over to the Java forum for me...
