Hello.
I have a problem with the Merlin magix system. The equipment is Intalled on a office on front of a Radio station. The problem is that when i make a call on any trunk I here the music that they are playing on the radio.
How can I resolve this problem. DO i need a fisical ground or an electronic eatrh?

Thanks

Take a dial test set to the point where your provider gives you the dial tone. Find a line with music in the background, then remove the wires toward the Magix and listen again or make a call. If you still hear music it's your provider's trouble. If the trouble shows toward the Magix we can discuss some options to(try)and get rid of it.

No i dont here it on Intercom calls. And i put my phone probe directlly to the line and i dont here anything. Somo pfriends told me tha I need to install an electrical groud. I allready put the system to the ground. It seems that it got lees noisy but they are still listening the music

Thanks

The problem you are having is RFI, Radio Frequency Interference.

But you knew that.

What is happening is the MAGIX is DEMODULATING the Radio Interference that is present on the lines coming into the building. That is, it is acting like a RADIO RECEIVER by changing the HIGH FREQUENCY SIGNAL (What the Radio Station Broadcasts) into something in the audible range (What we can hear) - Like a radio does.

There are filters you can get that will stop this.

As I recall, they are 100A radio filters.

Basically, what they do is grab that signal and QUASH IT before the Magix can demodulate it.

thanks for the tip
But where can i find this 100A radio filters
Can you please send me a web page or a link to find it.

Thanks again

in Lucent days they were called Z100a filters. try Radio Shack for any filter for RF on a phone line. I don't think they will know about the Z100a

Mike Sandman (sandman.com) sells RF filters. You need to know what kind of radio station you are getting: AM or FM. The RF filters Radio Shack sells block FM but not AM radio. DSL filters will block AM radio in a pinch.

See Mike's RF troubleshooting chart at
Sometimes the source of the RF can be surprising. Twisted pair wiring generally makes a poor antenna, so you won't get a lot of interference. Cheap modular cables, not twisted, can make great antennas. To solve your problem, you have to put the RF filter between the antenna and the electronics demodulating the RF signal.

I have used the radio shack filters before and they worked. You can punch them on a 66 block in the place of a bridge clip and then punch down the wire to the block to connect through the filter. scotch lock(UR) connectors work as well. Any radio shack should know and most likely have what you are looking for. Also, the radio station in some instances will provide filters for interference, or so is my experience.
