I currently use the holdmusic.wav file on our IP406 for hold music. It has been requested that we use an external source for better music. How can I do this and stay legal? Can I purchase a cd and use it or do I still have to contact BMI/ASCAP for proper licensing?

There isn't a license for the IP Office, you just have to remove your .wav file and plug your music source into the back of the IP Office. As the above links indicate, there you can get royalty free music.

They are not asking about IP Office licensing, but legal issues in rebroadcast of copyrighted/licensed Music

I have decided to go with a cd player and a royalty free music cd rather than pay fees for a radio broadcast. Sorry if my post caused confusion....I was inquiring about music licensing not Avaya licensing. Thanks for the website Peter.

You can go to for that. They have a searchable database for what artists/songs will be covered by license. License itself will cost you about $300-$400 a year (you'll have to sign a contract for that).
