I am faced with replacing a Nortel to match and beat feature sets and usablity. The culture is very resistant to and one feature I'm having a hard time trying to accomplish is they can currently play music over the phone. Not many people do but none the less some very important people do thus I have a hurdle to try to get over.

I'll have all IP Phones so resource is obviosuly a concern but is there even a way to provide "back ground music" over a phone via an aux or another port?

yes, if you tell me what kind of system you are going to? Also there is a feature with IP Office where you can play the MOH music over your phone.

So sorry.

I have S8720 running CM 5.0

Thank you so much for your help!

Something like this work?

1. Identify people who must have music on IP Phones

2. What would I need to Purchase to accommodate 160 employees:

a. TN744s for people hitting the extension to match 160 ETR-PT?

b. We have 2 TN2602 (320 VoIP each) so total 640 VoIP Resources. If everyone used music we should be fine here right?

c. We have one PN so 483 / 2 = 241 time slots so we’re good here right?

3. Add an analog port to audio source

4. Connect the port to an Amp

5. Connect the Amp to one of our set top boxes

6. Select a music channel we want

7. Assign a COR permissions to only people that absolutely cause a fuss

8. Program button for audio source extension

9. Give them a cost and that may be the end of it or if feasible move forward with purchasing

We had the same issue when we converted to Avaya.

My solution was:
A - install muzak in the entire office via overhead speakers.
B - recommend that the individuals involved bring in a radio or their MP3 player for themselves.

Have you looked at a Toshiba CTX/CIX? Or even an older Toshiba version? You can have BGM on the phones and with the CTX/CIX you can have multiple BGM inputs! That way you can pick and choose just like a radio station. This also works for MOH! The newer switches are IP and QSIG capable as well.

Thanks everyone. I'll look into those options. We're not allowed to have radios but we do have overhead with streaming music but have the volume off because not everyone wants to hear it.

Thanks again!

Hi
there is a music on hold interface card for the Avaya, what you can do is set-up an VDN and a vector that people can dial with the vector being something like this

10 Wait 99999 secs hearing music
20 goto step 10 if unconditional
30 stop

people can dial the number for the music

The music interface can accomodate CD players or create an MP3 Server use a desktop with audio out solder up the cable and use winamp to run the playlists
