i'm trying to use ica client for access to my network through a watchguard firewall and using their muvpn vpn client installed on laptops-also i am running xp fr2 on w2k sp 2 with Q301337 h/f installed ... the vpn is open and i can ping my internal dns server and nslookup my citrix servers but cannot acces anything via ica client either apps or server session- please help am quite new to remote access and very stuck-
thanks in advance derson

You may need to configure the client Custom Connection Settings or Application set settings with the Citrix server's internal IP addresses.

i am trying to do that via a custom ica session using dial up (ppp)and a servers ip which should work i think but doesn't - thanks for getting back

I'm assuming you are connecting to the Internet via a dial up networking connection and then establishing the VPN tunnel with the muvpn client on the laptop to the Watchguard that your Citrix servers are behind.

I know you said you could ping your internal DNS server. Can you also ping the internal address of the Citrix servers?

If that works you won't need to use another ICA dial up session to connect. You would want to connect via a standard network WAN connection to the internal IP's of the Citrix servers.

Without VPN you could also open port 1494 on the Watchguard and NAT to the internal IP of the Citrix server. Then on the client side you would need to specify that you are connecting to the server through a firewall. Then you need to use the ALTADDR command on the server specifying the "external" address that you want the client to connect to the server by.

The VPN of course is a more secure solution.

I hope that helps.

i want to do this through vpn,i cannot ping the citrix server(s)but nslookup brings back the netbios name so i was hoping to simplu use my ica client which i assumed would be directed by my dns sever to thecitrix server and i could then use my published apps etc?? do i need to set anytthing up differnmtly to do this..if indeed it is possible
thanks for your help

You'll need to troubleshoot the problem starting with the ping. Through the VPN connection you will need to be able to ping the Citrix server's IP addresses.

Is the DNS server on a different subnet from the Citrix boxes? If your DNS is in a DMZ separate from the internal network you may need to add a route for the Citrix servers IP's from the DMZ to the internal subnet.

Can you ping the Citrix server's IP address from the DNS server?

dns and citrix server on same subnet can ping dns from citris and vica verca can ping external from dns but not from citrix which also when using nslookup resolves exterbnal ip from name but still unrechable-also have to decided to use citrix ip from ica rather than dns-f i can get to ping!
