Hi:

I built a multivalued field and it works fine in the table and in a query but it will not work in a form. What do you have to do to make it work in a form or do they just not work in forms?

Thanks,

Hi,

"... it will not work in a form."

Meaning exactly what? It won't let you TYPE in the form? You screen melts? A song results? Please explain what happens or does not happen.

They should work fine. That is actually one of the values of the MV field is that they have their own unique controls.

I don't know how to put it on the form. I have attempted to do so with a list box and a combo box but no selections appear in either.

Drag the field on to the form from the available fields list. It will create a special combobox: a combo with check boxes in it. Or you can use a textbox for display purposes. You cannot use a standard combo or listbox as far as I know.[ul]

I have tried using a standard listbox and textbox. They seem to display fine, but are not editable. So drag the field on to the form and use the provided MV Combo.

Thanks.

I did what you said and it worked but the MV Combo Box is empty. Also, it changes the record source from the form's table to a query it built.

Sounds as if when you created the MV field you did not provide any choices. Not sure how that is possible. Does the MV field show choices in a datasheet view? If not recreate the MV field.

I guess a lot of people are right, these multivalued fields are for the birds.

Anyway, when I drop the field on my form I get a box that asks me what table to relate it to but I only have one choice, the form record source table. So I do that and then when I am finished the form record source is changed to a query built by the multivalued fields wizard or whatever it is called.

I have searched online for an hour for some detailed instructions about putting a multivalued field on a form. I find lots of stuff about multivalued fields but nothing about putting it on a form. Do you know where I can find some detailed instructions?

Thanks.

I do not understand what you are doing, but you should not get a wizard when you drop it on the form. You should get a wizard when you built it. If you find this difficult I would recommend avoiding it. It is an OK shortcut if you understand it, but problematic if you do not.

I get a window with a caption "Specify Relationship" and when I do that it changes the form record source to what I specified. I just dropped it on a blank form and it worked fine (no "Specify Relationship" window) so there must be something about my form that open the "Specify Relationship" window. Thanks.
