Is it possible to have more than one workgroup file for a database?

I have an existing company using my system with four users and now I want to sell the system to other companies. The only workgroup file I have is one with all of the existing users in it. If I can't have multiple workgroup files for the database, I assume the only way I can distribute the workgroup file is by deleting evryone but myself from the existing file and adding a "superuser" to the file to allow purchasers to add their own users.

Am I on the right track?

It is possible to have multiple workgroup files.

Users and groups are stored within the MDW file. Permissions to objects are stored within the MDB.

All user and group accounts are identified by MS Access by a unique ID number (the user name and password aren't particularly relevant).

Therefore what you need to do is ensure your developer account is created with the same ID number in all of the workgroup files. This way you can log in attached to any MDW file and be seen as the same user, with full rights to all objects. All the other non-developer users can be created as you would do normally.

It is actually possible to remove developer users from the MDW file (in code) once you have created it, including the default Admin user. You can then distribute the workgroup file and be assured that it is not possible for your customers to crack the developer password and get rights you don't want them to have. If you do this just ensure you keep a very safe copy of your master workgroup file so you can still get in.
