We have a remote office that, up 'til now, had one PC connecting to the main office via a VPN over a dial-up connection. We are adding a second PC at the remote office. I had hoped to use a modem router to allow the two machines to share one internet connection. That works fine but the NAT employed by the modem router does not allow the VPN to operate. It's a 3Com router and their documentation says that since the originating port numbers are encrypted, the router doesn't know what host should get what packets. It says I need to disable NAT but that requires our service provider to give us several IPs for the one dial-up account.. something they say they can't do.
Is there a good solution to providing multiple users a VPN connection over dial-up? Is dial-up too slow to support more than one VPN? DSL is not available at the remote site.
