I support multiple customers, some of whom use CR 8.5 and others who use 9.0. Do you know if I can load both versions on my computer (Windows XP, SP2) without the dlls stepping on each others toes? I don't mind keeping straight what version each report was created in.

Yes, in theory you can.
You can't mix previous versions with CR 8.5 though.
