I have this problem. I have workstations that must be used by different people but not always the same machine and not always the same person. WHichever computer is open -they can hop on. The problem: they want to retrieve their email from exchange 5.5. I have them set up as a user and for now I have them go in and rt click outlook ---properties --- double click exchange server--- find name and change mailbox.

This is causing problem for when the actual "owner" of the computer comes in they are now logging in as them selves but are getting snagged when they try to open outlook.

ANy suggestions ---Thanks

Tmandu,
The way that I handle these non stationary folks is to have them used the web based interface. It may not be as functional as the Outlook client is but it works pretty good. Some of them have actually gotten computers for their own and prefer to use OWA. I guess if your using NT you could have them login to all the computers that they use and setup profiles for them on each workstation.
Just my two cents.

I have not used it personally, but you may want to investigate profgen.exe. It is a MS utility for roaming e-mail users. Good luck.

Have you thought about setting up Outlook to prompt for the profile to be used? Then the person can choose their name from the drop down menu.

As long as the users have roaming profiles you can use Outlook without resorting to a web-based set up. Set up the new user profile with profgen.exe or profnew.exe (available from M$ web site) or do it manually for each user.

Simply login as each user (with profiles enabled) and configure their Outlook settings (prompted when you start Outlook for the first time as each user) ensuring that all settings are server based, that way any user can use any machine without predjudice.

Another useful app (not free, though) is basically a front end for the utilities mentioned above (PROFGEN and PROFNEW) - Outlook Anywhere. It is designed for shared workstations and kiosk style computers running Microsoft Outlook. This utility is popular at large media/news organizations where staff frequently moves around.

That's simple. That's what profiles are for. You simply create a new profile and then prompt Outlook to make you choose a profile when starting.

Using WINNT SBS and when you set a up a user you add the app's of outlook client and IE5 and once they have setup on one workstation they can log in anywhere and the same profile comes up with their personal login.....no worries. no need for that other stuff!! :)

Thanks, but I am not familiar with WINNT SBS - could you be a little more detailed . I would appreciate it.

We use the Profile Generator mentioned above .. it works pretty good with Windows 95/98 and it allows you as the administrator to set up standardized settings from the console ...
