I just got a new laptop and I want to be able to login to two distinct networks. I don't have any problem with the IP address, and subnet mask, it's just that in the "identification" window in Windows 98 I need to specify the "workgroup" which is where I have traditionally put the domain name. Windows 98 wont allow me to leave this blank. Each network has a distinct domain name. This seems like it should be possible, after all, isn't that part of the point of using a laptop. Certainly there is a way to accomplish this. Help? JSR [sig][/sig]

Why do you need the Workgroup name to be blank or am I missing the point?

Is there a specific Workgroup you need to be apart of in either domain?

A simplistic approach would be to create either a profile or at a minimum a multi-config boot option where you could choose which workgroup you need to be a part of. Based upon that choice the particular workgroup could be entered in the registry.

You can accomplish this by altering the following registry key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\VNETSETUP
and changing the entry for Workgroup.

You could export this key from the registry, create a copy, one for each workgroup, and then import it based upon a profile or multi-config option from autoexec.bat...

"regedit /s workgrp.reg"

If you need more detail let me know..or if I am missing your point feel free to correct me.

I created another profile so there is an option at start up to boot under either profile. I don't know how to implement the autoexec.bat configuration so that it automatically inserts the appropriate workgroup based on the profile I choose at boot up. Could you explain how to set this up? Thanks. JSR [sig][/sig]
