Hi all,

I have been handed MS2002 by my boss and asked to set up a project plan for implementing a new teaching curriculum. After reading a few "idiot's guides" I am up and running - but here is my question. Say I have 5 tasks being handled concurrently by one person over 10 days. I enter them in - and naturally, it shows 500% allocation for each day. Now I know I could split the tasks into 5x2day chunks or allocate the resource at 20% for each task, but is there an easier way?

This example is fairly simple, but I can see problems trying to apportion times when there are a number of people/resources working as a team on a number of different tasks at the same time - it seems very tedious to manually work out a percentage for each task to get a 100% workload for each person

Many thanks

Kym

Some of this is purely personal working preferences so don't take this as gospel.

I prepare my plans in the following sequence:

1. Define project (currency, work hours, calendar, etc.)
2. Define tasks (especially duration, work)
3. Schedule tasks and linkages (predecessors, successors, lags)
4. Define resources (work hours, calendar, etc.)
5. Assign resources to tasks.

Because I have defined tasks (especially work and duration) and then assigned resources, MSProj works well for me.

In order to level, I never use automatic levelling. I almost always go into View | Resource Usage and tweak and fiddle hours there.
