I recently upgraded my server's drives and my backups are now too large for one dlt tape. I now get an arcserve message requesting me to insert a blank tape.. no matter what i put in there the backup never continues, it just keeps asking for a blank tape. I have two drives in an array and Id like to configure them so that the backup runs on both tapes, but I cant find any way to accomplish this.

any help would be appreciated....

In device manager, you have to create a group containing your 2 tape drives.

Also, remember that the tape needs to have been formatted by Arcserve first.

Remember to use the rules for new media under the options dialog box. You specify the options for the first backup media and for the additional media as well.

In regarding the ability to use both drives at the same time, you might want to explore the Tape RAID(T) option.
I´ts very easy to install and extremely powerful.
When used under Win NT It will allow you to build a raid(t) 0 array using your two dlt drives. You will gain in speed and in storage space per tape. Just remember to tweak your system by allocating more ram for buffering this will improve the performance. If you use DLT 7000 you will need to feed the tapes fast enough in order to the best out of this technology. If you can´t feed the tapes fast enough you are better of using a slower drive. Believe me a DAT 24 might perform faster than a DLT 7000 if you don´t feed them fast enough. There is a good paper in the tech base for this topic.
Hope this works for you.

i originally had the tape set up as an array but with the last install i changed it. Now i cant seem to find how to reinstall it as an array...

Please ignore the above people. This is as far as i can see ARCserve asking for a blank tape. The tape you are using have a current format on them so they are not "blank" you need to quick erase plus the tapes first [then they are blank]. If this setup was an array of two devices, raid-0 or 1??. You might need to reinstall the raid option software to reconfigure the set.
