Hi,

I have a client with multiple sites. I want one site to be their main site and the others to branch off as remote sites? What is the best way to do this? I am thinking if possible have 2011 SBS at main site and at remote site a,b,c have 2008 standard and connect into domain via VPN connection? Then have DFS replication for data.

Am I going about this the right way? The reason I have chosen SBS 2011 is that server 2008 and exchange 2010 will cost me nearly 3 times the price.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

why not just use terminal services or / published apps on the SBS box over the VPN. less overhead and cost!

hairlesssupportmonkey, SBS does not permit Terminal Services Mode on the SBS server. With SBS Premium you can have a separate terminal server.

megadan2000, I would do the following.

1. Create sites for each location in AD Sites & Services.
2. Add a server at each location as you have already suggested.
3. Establish a site to site VPN connection from each satelite site to the SBS location.
4. DCPromo each server so it is a Domain Controller and make them each a Global Catalog. This will benefit the people at the remote sites since they will authenticate their logins locally.
5. Setup DFS for replication of shared files.

I hope that helps.

Mark
