Hi

I have a new Compaq DL360 G2 server with Netware 5.1 SP3 using the onboard scsi controller with mirrored disk's. Problem is when adding an additional adaptec 29160N SCSI card for Tape drive support the Server abends with a critical eror or reboots when the SCSI Driver is loading. Other errors issued are "SCSI Bus reset by third party" about 20 times.
I have upgrade the SCSI driver as recommended on the Novell support to u160_nw6.exe, but to no avail.
Quickly running out of idea's and would appreciate any suggestion's. Currently in the process of upgrading to NW51sp5 to see if there is any improvement.

Thanks

David CNE

What IRQ has it assigned to the card and what slot have you put it into? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

Hi

Thanks for the response, the card is in slot=2 and the IRQ=11. So far I have try'd 2 version of ADPT160M.ham from Adaptec and One which compaq recommend's, but no luck so far. SP5 patch has just finished, so I will see how that goes. I also saw another tip from the Novell AppNotes which suggested disabling "Parity" - Disable "Reset SCSI Bus at IC/Init" and reducing the "Sync tranfer rate". I have always just taken the defaults in the past with other controllers unless there was a confict etc, but I may have to give it a go. The controller initialize's OK and see's the DLT tape drive on ID 4 ok - problems only occur when the driver is loaded, I even have played around with the load order a bit.

Thanks Again

David

Hi,

Have you tried moving the card to another slot? I have seen this problem occur due to the slot I was using. Normally Compaq has recommendations for which type cards to use in certain slots. Sorry but I don't remember any details.

Hi

I have now moved the slot to slot=1, found a conflict on IRQ=11 with the On board SCSI controller and loaded SP5 for Netware. While the server does not abend when the driver is loaded it still make a lot of beeping and issue's warnings to the console about "SCSI bus Reset by third party" multiple times. Now hang's while loading ASTART (Arcserve 7)when scanning for SCSI host adapters - Will reload software and load the patch and see how it goes.

Thanks

David

What version of ADPT160M.HAM are you running? -----------------------------------------------------

Hi

Just another thought - What about a flash update of the card - I see there are 3 later release's since my out of the box version. Has anybody had to do a flash before ?

David

I always flash the card and the tape drive. I always use the Adaptec 29160LP card in DL360 servers and have never had an issue as you describe. I run NW5.1 SP5, Smartstart 5.4 -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

Thanks

I will flash it and see how it goes.

Thanks "The Lad"

From your previous POST I started thinking maybe I have the wrong card - rang Compaq and they said I need a pn# 154457-b21 and not the Workstation model (157810-b21)which I have been using. I try start again in a week with a new card.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Regards

David
