Multiple separate companies, 1 exchange server

My company has multiple domain names that all point to 1 exchange 2010 server. The domain names are mostly relics of name changes over the years. Everything on that aspect works fine. Today I get the notice that we are spinning off a different company. This company needs to be "separate" from the existing company. I've done a little bit of research and it seems like exchange 2010 can do this, if when you initially install it you install it from the command line and use a /hosting switch. Needless to say this was not done. So the question is can exchange 2010, which was not installed using the /hosting switch, host multiple separate companies and if so, what is the process to set them up?

Thanks in advance.

So then it's possible using this "on-premises configuration"?

Oh, one other thing I should mention is we have Exchange 2010 Standard, NOT Enterprise. Does that kill it?

It really depends on what level of isolation you want the new company to have. You can create completely separate address books...what do you want them to see/not see?

It would need to be fully separated. The spin off company would even have to pay the parent company for "hosting" services, if that gives you an idea of how separate they would have to be. IMHO if they need so much separation to keep the books straight they are better off going with a hosted solution for $4/user per month. However, its my job to see if it is possible or not...

You can achieve this with 2010 SP2 and GAL segregation. However $4/month may be simpler :)
