I have 2 firewalls for redundancy (one ISA server and one Symantec 200r), with the 2000 pro workstations on the network configured to use one as the default gateway (metric 1) and the other as a backup route(metric 2) via DHCP.
Normally if you do a route print, it reports the correct IP as the default gateway at the bottom of the report, with both gateways listed at the top of the report, but.....
My problem is that the connection keeps dropping, most noticabley when using PC anywhere, terminal services messenger etc (ie you don't really notice it when browsing). On checking I can see that the default gateway has changed to the backup route. Shortly the connection drops again as it reverts to the primary route etc etc.
How does 2000 decide which route to use?? Can anyone help me stop the connection from dropping??
