I'm an IT guy who's been in the industry for 9 years now. I just came into a contract position that requires that I learn how to administrate a Mac in an enterprise environment. They are 2 years from moving off the Mac platform in favor of a PC environment, but they have a database application that will force them to keep the Mac's around until the database is fully converted to be windows compatible.
This application can run fine in OS 10.2 (no higher) running OS9 emulation. What we need to do is, as our old Mac hardware breaks down, we would like to install software on the PC that allows them to access a remote desktop session on an apple server. The server will support up to 50 separate remote sessions, and each person will have their own desktop, and can run their own instance of this database software.
I'm not sure what will be required for this. I realize emulating OS9 takes a LOT of CPU cycles, memory, etc. We're willing to lease an Apple X-Server, as long as it can do what we need it to do.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?
