We are going to be upgrading our installation of Office97 to Office2000 in the next few weeks.....to effectively remove Office97 it appears that it is "best" to also remove all instances from the registry "left behind" after uninstalling.....since we need to remove from 12 Citrix Servers, can anyone tell me if its possible to run a script to do the removal of the registry keys....????

Any advice etc....????

Thanks..............

Any comments....????

Has anyone simply upgraded Office97 to 2000....??? Any issues regarding this...???

Is it possible to script changes for the registry....???

thanks.......

I know there is a tool out there that cleans up after Office97 once you uninstall it. It did a pretty good job when I used it 4 years ago. I forgot the name of it. It was something like regclean or some word with clean in it.

I don't know of any command line tools that would delete a registry key except maybe for regini.exe. Although I never used it to delete a key. The command parameters for this tool are extensive.

Going from Office 97 to Office 2000 isnt' really an upgrade because I believe that Office 2000 always uninstalls Office97 before it begins the install...making it a fresh install.

As far as scripting changes to the registy, changes are easy to make (deleting a Key is another thing). Any specific thing you trying to change?

By the way, are these servers in an AD domain? If they are, system policy has a registry key that you can push out to the clients when they logon.

Hope that helps... Dave Namou, MCSE CCEA

Yeah, I think u mean regclean...??? From Microsoft...!!!

It's supposed to remove "erroneous" values from the registry...to be fair it does seem to work...although I think I've only had to use it once for "real"..!!

I was only "worried" about removing an application like Office97 and leaving behind a lot of registry entries on our Citrix servers before installing Office2000 in it's place....I didn't realise that Office2000 performed this task as part of its own installation....if that's the case I'll just let it do its thing...???!!!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, if it all goes wrong...etc...!!!!!

Have you had any problems or things to watch when installing Office2000...????

thanks.....
