Hi all,

I have a spot of bother in trying to eradicate muliple records. I'm using 3 tables, table 1 linking one to one to table 2, and table 2 linking one to many to table 3. Needless to say, when I use a field from table 1, I get multiple entries against data when using fields off table 3.
It's not a problem if I don't need totals, but I do need totals, which are useless, as I'm getting a tally on multiple entries

From what I have read running totals are supposed to assist me here, but it would not appear to be the case. Either I am missing the concept, or looking around the wrong corner.

The question: How do I kill multiple entries?

Since you are using version 8 you can use the new automatic running totals in the Insert menu.

First, add a final group to your report so that the duplicates occur within the group (ie if the same product repeats 5 times add a group on product ID. Now add a running total field (Insert - Running Total Field - New)
Select a field to summarize and an operation. The key is to set the "Evaluate" setting to "Once per group" selecting the group you just added. This will cause the total to only look at the first record of each group.

The Reset setting is for when you want the running total to be a subtotal, you set it to reset at (the end of) the larger group.

Hope this helps. [sig]
Ken Hamady- href= Reports Training by Ken Hamady
[/sig]
