Multiple print drivers on print server? 1

I installed a Linksys wired print server on a peer-to-peer small network. I can see the print server and the printers fine, but these are large laserjet printers that support both postscript and PCL drivers, and the client needs to be able to use both drivers for both printers. I was able to get the add printer wizard to install the same printer twice only one time, and now whenever I try to add the same printer again to install it with another driver, it just bypasses the driver screen and asks me if I want it to be the default printer. Same results on 2 machines and 2 printers. OS is XP home. Any ideas? I called Linksys and they were no help. Told me to just use Add Printer Wizard.

The other approach is with the add ports trick:

Open Printers and FAXES, click File, Server Properties, Ports, Add Ports

You will define two new local ports, each corresponding to the path of the existing printer server definitions for the printers -- e.g. \\linksys\printer1

Now define four new local printers, using the appropriate "new" local port for each.

Thanks, Bill. I'll give it a try as soon as I can get back out there. Right now I have both printers hooked directly to a machine, bypassing the print server until we can get this resolved.

I was able to add local ports through the print server, after installing the print server drivers. I created 2 uniqui ports for each printer and assigned them wach a different driver. Worked like a charm on all 3 machines. Thanks for your help.

You are very welcome.

The "local port" trick is a true bcastner classic.
