Hi,

I am trying to configure multiple PPEs servers for load-balancing and mirroring. The servers are as below:

=======================

SERVER1 : contains IIS (webserver), PP gateway and Upfront gateway installed; Server is in DMZ (firewall between this and other servers)

---------------

SERVER2: contains PP dispatcher/processor, administration; acts as primary PP server

---------------

SERVER3: contains PP dispatcher/processor, Upfront data store, upfront dispatcher, Access manager/LDAP

=======================

Configurations made:

------------

On SERVER1:
In the server configurations, added multiple PP dispatchers (with SERVER2 and SERVER3). Added upfront details to SERVER3.
In component configurations, updated the Access manager runtime. Also changed PPES>Gateway>General>Temporary files Access to Dispatcher.

------------

On SERVER2:
Server configurations set same as in SERVER1 (cer5.cfx file copied from the gateway server).
In Component configuration, PPES>Dispatcher>General>Resource (/ppwb) Location to \\SERVER2\PPWB and Temporary File location (ppservertemp) to \\SERVER2\PPservertemp; Fetch temp files from Server to TRUE.
Other configurations like Access manager are set.

------------

On SERVER3:
Server configurations ser same as SERVER1 except in dispatchers list where SERVER3 listed first and then SERVER2.
In Component configurations, the PPWB and PPSERVERtemp fodlers changed same as SERVER2.
Other regular configurations made.

==========================

Folders Sharing:
on SERVER2, the PPWB, PPSERVERTEMP, Imported_reports folders are shared and WRITE access granted to EVERYONE.

==========================

PPES configurations:
on SERVER2, Imported reports set with Mirror properties to SERVER3. The MOUNT AT property changed to \\SERVER2\imported_reports on the both PP servers.
Print settings updated with the mirror servers.

==========================
Error:

When I access upfront, the cubes are not opening. First time I get message as unable to create temporary files, contact administrator. Second try if I try the same cube, i get message as Powerplay server is busy. During this time, on SERVER2, in the PPES process monitor tab, it shows the cube as active.

==========================

Can someone suggest me which step I missed or did soemthing wrong here. My aim is to do the mirroring so that if one server fails, the other picks up. Also later I may like to have some cubes only on one server.

regards,
Sudhi

Are you starting PowerPlay services with the same Windows Acccount ?

I mean specify a Windows Account to be used to Start PowerPlay Enterprise server Service, instead of using the default one.

hi,

Yes. All the services are running using local user belonging to administrator account.

All three servers have account called CognosService. These servers belong to my Corporate Domain group.

I am using CognosService user in all the servers, for all cognos services.

thanks.

to add more details...

If I access the cube from Upfront, i get cube (its accessed from primary PP server = SERVER2). When I disable the cube of SERVER2, it gives "The request failed because the cube or report is disabled."

Why when one server is down, the second is not taking the request?

hi,

Cubes are mirrored.

Does this mean if the cube on the primary server is DISABLED, then the request goes to secondary?

or is it just when primary server is not available (either service down or max connections reached), then only the request goes to secondary?

thanks.

regards,
Sudhi
