Hi there,

I'm planning to build a VMWare based network management server. I have a decent spec server (Dual Xeon, 6Gb RAM,4 * 146Gb U320 SCSI drives) with a quad port NIC adapter installed. I'd like to create a number of VMs to run various network management apps such as WhatsUp Pro, Scrutinizer, Insight Manager, etc.

My question is, will the freeby version of VMWare server allow seperate VMs to use specific physical NICs in the host PC (for example, can the Whatsup VM use one physical NIC, while scrutinizer uses a different one)? If the free version won't do it, is there another version that will?

Cheers,

Q.

Please ignore the question. I've sorted it out (yes the freeby version does allow multiple physical NICs to be used - Look under HOST - VIRTUAL NETWORK SETTINGS in the menu and then the HOST VIRTUAL NETWORK MAPPING tab)

Cheers,

Q.

I would team the nics/ports. provides failover for all VM's you run on the host that way.

just my 2 cents,
