Notes version 6.5.
A user has created multiple copies of an archive database, renamed the .nsf files and modified contents of the archives. However he cannot create multiple links on the workspace for each archive (every link is overwritten).

Is there a way to distinguish between the archives and create a link for each one of them?

I suppose he did a file copy - in other words not via Notes.
Since you state that workspace icons overwrite, I must conclude that the copy made was a physical copy. The fact that links overwrite is because the Replica ID of the files is identical - and it is the Replica ID that states, for Notes, whether the db is unique or not.
In other words, if you could create ten times the same filename in a directory, Notes could still tell there are different because of the Replica ID. Conversely, unless the Replica ID is different, you can name two copies any which way you want, Notes considers they are the same.

You user must delete all secondary copies he made, and create new copies from Notes, using either the New Database option or the New Copy option.
Anything else is going to reproduce this situation.

Users claims to have used the rightclick on the database-link in the workspace to create a new copy. I presume that that performs the same action in creating a new replica?

Not necessarily - they have two possibities :

File/database/New copy - which creates a copy with a different ReplicaID

or

File/Replica/New replica - which creates an identical copy with the same ReplicaID

Come to think of it, it would be surprising that the user would use the Replica option. Yet, if the file icons are stacked on the workspace, it can only be because the Replica ID is the same. That is the only possibility that lets Notes stack them.
