Ok here it goes. I have 8 servers, none of which have changed their setup. Arcserve 2000 sp4 running on a dedicated backup server with a Seagate DLT 1 drive. All client machines are using the client agent with SP4 as well. For the past month or so, my backups have been trying to span tapes at the 45 gig mark. Before that I've been backing up 50 to 60 gigs without it asking for a new tape. When analysing the logs I've noticed the following. The log will say that it finished backing up the drives, then the registry and how much it has written for the server. This will happen at 23:31 and also say sending disaster recovery information. The next line is at 23:54 (25 minutes later) when it actually writes the summary line for the server.
25 minutes is a long time to not send a whole lot of information to the backup server... I noticed big time gabs like this all over the place. After that it takes almost 10 minutes before it says connecting to the next client agent.
I know with the way tapes work, that it's streaming the information. All this dead time is eating up space.
Are there performance issues with SP4?
Any help with this would be great.
Thanks
