Multiple Internet Domain question

I have a question that isn't real clear in the Novell docs. I have a client with 3 internet domains. I have configured the additional domains in both the Foreign ID and the GWIA internet addressing configuration. As configured, the following happens (which is all good):

Outgoing -- Mail is sent using the domain that is globally configured as the primary domain.
Incoming -- Mail can be received on all three domains for any user in the post office.

That is all working as expected. But here is what I am confused about... I need to assign certain users to have different domains for outgoing email. So on their UserID, I click the override button and choose the appropriate domain from the list. After this, the following applies:

Outgoing - Mail is sent from the domain specified in the "Override" checkbox
Incoming - Mail for the user is received ONLY on the domain that is chosen in the Override checkbox. Mail to the same user at the other two domains is rejected.

Is this working as designed? Or, is there a way to make it so the user can have the override domain for the outgoing mail, but still receive mail for their UserID on any of the three domains? This is a feature I need so the users can transition smoothly to the new domain usage but still receive email okay from the old domain.

Thanks for any clarification.

My understanding of Internet Addressing Overrides is that when an override is selected @ either of the three levels. Mail that was not addressed to that domain would not get to the intended recipient. In ConsoleOne an example is displayed in the help section of the GWUser/Properties/GroupWise/Internet Addressing. If you have two domains (gw.novell.com & novell.com) and JSmith was in the gw.novell.com domain, JSmith could only receive mail addressed to JSmith@gw.novell.com. Mail sent to JSmith@novell.com would not be delivered. Even though novell.com is a valid domain. I need to think on this more. There has to be a way to do what you want to do. I guess right now I can't see the forest because of the tree's.

marvhuffaker,

Which version of GroupWise is your client using? We currently have GroupWise 6.0.3 and when I choose to override the Internet Domain Name at any level I also have a checkbox labeled For Incoming Mail, Recipients Are Known Exclusively by This Internet Domain Name.

In your case this checkbox needs to be cleared. Below is an excerpt from the ConsoleOne Help regarding this feature:

For Incoming Mail, Recipients Are Known Exclusively by This Internet Domain Name
If you check this box, this post office will only receive mail addressed to the Internet domain name selected above, even if another valid Internet domain name is used. A valid Internet domain name is any domain name you've defined at the system level (Tools menu > GroupWise System Operations > Internet Addressing).

If you don't see this checkbox perhaps it's not a feature that's available in the version of GroupWise you are configuring. Is it there?

I'm using GW6.5. I recall seeing the checkbox you mention, and i'll have to go back and see if it is checked or not.

Okay, I've looked at the config again and the checkbox is NOT checked.

The explanation of the checkbox help would seem to suggest that by Not checking it, incoming emails would work on all domains.Only by Checking the box would you limit incoming to the one domain. But it seems as if the result is the same either way.
