Can anyone tell me if it is possible to run multiple instances of websphere on the same box?

What platform? We run WAS 3.5 / HTTP Server 5.3 under OS/390 2.10. We run multiple instances of WAS via separate HTTP servers on all of our LPARS.

This is also possible on WebSphere distributed (not on z/OS). The IBM High Volume Website Team describes this as "vertical clustering", whereas running WAS instances on different hosts would be "horizontal clustering". A rock-solid availability solution would probably do both... they each have their strengths and weaknesses for a live deployment...
