Win98, Apache Server running PERL.
Following an error within a PERL script, I end up with multiple instances of PERL running. Is there a way of automatically closing an un-used instance following an error.

Are you running mod_perl or the perl interpreter? Does it do this with any other errors or scripts or just this single case? Does your error_log give any clues? Sorry to ask so many questions but before anybody can help you, they need to know a little more than you have runaway child processes. Last question, would you be interested in giving up win98 for the latest version of linux?

To answer your last question first.
I would prefer to use Linux rather than windows but I do most of my dev. work for WIN machines and don't need the cross platform headaches on top of all the other problems, so I guess I'm stuck with it for now.
There is so much I still have to learn about the PERL environment.
I am using the Perl Console from Indigoperl, running on an Apache server. I have also got MySQL server running but this problem goes back to before MySQL was installed.
The error log only tells me what the script error was. The script usually fails because of some typo etc. but I need to close the instance of PERL at that point. I suppose your definition of 'runaway child process' is the correct terminology for this problem. Is there a 'clean up' routine which needs to be invoked because I am sure I am not the only one who makes mistakes LOL.
