Hi,
My clients have a problem to reach my servers via ODBC. Not exactly the server but the "non-default" instance of SQL. The default instance works fine with ODBC.

They runs under windows NT 4.0 and the server under Windows 2K (SQL server 2000 SP3).

Connection error message is [TCP/IP sockets] General network error

For now, i have the solution to install sql server client side on their machine. I dont like this solution

I've tried to install MDAC 2.7 but it doesn't work. ODBC versions are the same.

Any solutions and/or suggestions ?

OK, i found the solution :
For NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 (not sure) you have to specified the port of the name instance.
For XP or and SQL client machine the port can be determined dynamically.
