Multiple Gateways

In an effort to make switching between home routers and the office, we are trying to use multiple gateways and IPs on a laptop so your internet connection comes up immediately in either location.

Entering a second IP and second Gateway works fine, but it won't actually use the second Gateway when you plug onto the other router.

Am I missing something here?
