ok i know there has already been numerous post on splitting databases. i appologize, but i am not really finding what i need. we have a which is shared on a network drive. how ever i believe that everyone is using the same front end...so when i have a form or something open in design view everyone else that trys to access the db is locked out. to create multiple front ends, do the users just make a copy of the front end and save it on their desktop? also, does everyone have to have their drives mapped the same way? i.e. say on my computer the db has the path of:
M: \\1234\rec$ and on another persons it is mapped as
I: \\1234\rec$ with it set up the way it is right now (everyone accessing through the same front end it is saying the path cannot be found), will this not be an issue with multiple front ends. so i am asking two things...1) how do i create multiple front ends? 2) does every users pc have to be mapped the same way?

The mappings will need to be the same as what's on the development computer. Therefore, its preferable to use UNC paths (//server_name/folder/DB.mdb) rather than drive letters.

One trick for easier distribution of new frontends is to have the users' shortcuts point to a batch file instead of an MDB. The batch file would copy the newest version of the frontend from the server to their computer, then open the local frontend in Access.
