Multiple formats in a cell in Excel 1

I want to concatenate the data found in two cells and retain the formats in the combined cell in Excel.

Example:

Cell A1: unbold
Cell A2: BOLD

Cell A3: =A1 & A2

The desired result is unboldBOLD where the text "BOLD" is formatted as <bold> but the text "unbold" remains unbolded.

Anyone know how to do this?

An excel formula cannot determine cell formatting - it just returns data.

I've never done it before, but this could probably be done with a macro. If you'd like to pursue that option, please repost in forum707.

I agree with John.

Oddly enough, I've been asked to do something very similar to what you want. The logic is very tricky. If you pursue a VBA solution in Forum707, you'll have to do some of the "heavy lifting."
