Our installation has a server connected with HP Surestore 24e tape backup with Backup exec version 7.0 . From this server, we backup the files of several servers (7 minimum). At the last week, we have the message "Multiple tape alert flags were set. See log file for detailed messages".
The log contain this messages:
Storage device "HP 0" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported: data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Tape alert events:
Warning:
Device:\\name_of_server_\drive\HP0
The operation was stopped because an error has ocurred while reading o writing data which the drive cannont correct.
Critical:
Device:\\name_of_server_\drive\HP0
The tape drive needs cleaning.
We did all steps indicated there, however the problem still maintain it.(including the cleaning).
Is someone has the possible solution for this incident?
Thank you in advance.

You can download utilities from HP to run on win/NT to test the unit, but it sounds like the tape unit could be faulty. I suggest trying the test utils to confirm the problem is in the drive.
